GR20 hikers: how to arrange your transfer between Figari Airport, Porto-Vecchio and Conca, the southern end of the Corsican trail.
The GR20 is one of Europe's most renowned long-distance hiking trails. It crosses Corsica from north to south over approximately 180 kilometres, from Calenzana (Haute-Corse) to Conca, a small village nestled in the Alta Rocca at 600 metres altitude. For hikers finishing the GR20 at Conca, the question of getting back to civilisation is both practical and pressing: you need to reach an airport, a port or Porto-Vecchio to return to the mainland.
That is where LiberTaxi comes in.
Conca is approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Porto-Vecchio. From Porto-Vecchio, Figari Airport is just another 25 kilometres south-west. Hikers who finish the GR20 in the late afternoon often have a flight the next morning or early afternoon from Figari.
Distances from Conca:
Our Renault Trafic vehicles can accommodate several hikers with their bulky rucksacks. If your group finished the GR20 together, a single vehicle is enough for everyone.
The logic works the other way too. If you are flying to Corsica to start the GR20 at Calenzana (northern end), you usually land at Bastia. But some hikers choose to do the crossing in reverse (south → north), or prefer to fly into Figari and make their own way to Conca before heading north to Calenzana.
In that case, LiberTaxi can transport you from Figari Airport to Porto-Vecchio or Conca, for a first night before beginning the ascent.
Organised groups often like to combine:
1. An airport–Porto-Vecchio or airport–Conca transfer on the outward journey 2. A Conca–airport transfer on the returnLiberTaxi can coordinate both legs if you book in advance. Provide your flight number on arrival and your approximate arrival time at Conca on the return (allow a margin — hikes don't finish at a precise time), and we organise the whole thing.
After 180 km on foot through the Corsican mountains, Porto-Vecchio is an excellent recovery base before your return flight. The old town, the marina, the beaches of Santa Giulia and Palombaggia are just minutes away by car. Many travellers plan one or two nights there before heading home.
LiberTaxi can take you from Conca directly to your hotel in Porto-Vecchio, with no connections, no scrambling for a local taxi at the end of a gruelling stage.
Mobile coverage is non-existent on much of the GR20. Booking a taxi from the trail is virtually impossible. Book your transfer before you leave, specifying:
The final stages of the GR20 (particularly the descent from Bavella to Conca) can take between 5 and 8 hours depending on fitness and conditions. Don't book a 5 pm flight if you estimate reaching Conca at 3 pm. An extra night in Porto-Vecchio is better than a race against the clock.
Conca has a few gîtes d'étape and B&Bs. If you finish late, an overnight stay there may be preferable before the journey to the airport. Check availability in advance, especially in July and August.
Whether you are arriving at Conca or want to reach the starting point, book your transfer online or contact us via the contact page. Specify your itinerary and we will suggest the best route for your group.
LiberTaxi is available 24/7, since 1972.
